Luz Renouf
Born on January 28,, 1924 in Santander de Quilichao, Colombia to Pedro Nates and Emma Galarza de Nates. She was raised in Cali with her sister, Cira. After training as a secretary, she got a clerical job with Grace Line Shipping Company in Buena Ventura where she met Captain Gerald E. M. Renouf. They married in 1944, she was 18 and he was 36.

They moved to the Port of San Jose, Guatemala. On May 3rd, 1948, their first born son Gerald Jr. was born, followed by daughter Ada on May 26, 1949. The family moved to San Francisco, California in 1952 and there Luz adapted to her new surroundings and learned English. Captain Renouf continued traveling in the Merchant Marines. They made many close family and friends there, including Gilda and George Burge, Genevieve and Oscar Kavee, the Guillen family, and many more. Luz was a warm, loving, sociable person who made friends easily.

In 1975, she and her husband moved to New Orleans where they bought their first house. Captain Renouf, despite being of Canadian birth hated the cold weather in San Francisco and refused to buy a house there. Sadly, in March 1976, Captain Renouf died of a heart attack. Luz sold the home and subsequently moved to Coral Springs, Florida near her daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren, Maria Isabel and Juan Eduardo Gallego.

In Coral Springs, she became close friends with Aleida Cardona and her lovely daughters Milena, Sonia and Zoraida; also with Teresa LaTrash and Ana Spencer, all of whom have been very loving and good to her, as she to them.

She was always very close to her Colombian family, sister Cira, niece Ana Milena, and nephews Ernesto, Gustavo, and Alfredo Varela and their families.. She established friendships with brother and sisters in law in Canada, Harold Renouf and wife Dorothy, their children Janet, Ann, Robert, and Susan, Sister-in-law Sybil Ross and husband Waldo and their daughter Lynn; Sister-in-Law Ada Renouf Bayer and husband Jim.

Luz was a generous, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to Alex, Andrew, Laura, and Joseph. She was also a loving aunt, great aunt and mother-in-law. She was also well loved during the 15 months she resided at a long-term nursing facility, Heartland by staff and residents alike. Her many friends included Dr. Ramon (Bun) Gallego, Carolyne and Alfonso Buendia, Doris and Elsie Andrade.

Sadly her son Gerald died on October 10, 1993 from Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a heavy blow to all. Luz is survived by her daughter Ada Budd and
husband and loving son-in-law Richard Budd , granddaughter Dr. Maria Attis and husband Brian, their children Alex, Andrew and Laura; grandson Dr. Juan Gallego and wife Jill, their son Joseph.

She will be deeply missed but died peacefully in her sleep after a difficult, painful day on June 3rd. We will remember her always with love.
